Time for A People’s Vote

July 9, 2019 1:57 PM

Liberal Democrats at County Hall are asking Norfolk County Council to support a People's Vote on Brexit at the full council meeting on 22 July 2019.

Steff Aquarone said, "It's clear Parliament has been unable to reach a conclusion on how to deliver Brexit. And with the Liberal Democrats polling record highs, even the noisiest of Tory leaders won't want to face a general election. We think it's time to put the decision back to the people".

"There was far too little reasonable discussion in the run up to 2016 but now people across the UK have had a chance to have the conversation. In the past three years many of them have changed their minds. The Brexit saga continues to demonstrate the worst of Tory infighting played out on our country, and it is in danger of dragging us down a road the majority of people don't want. What happens next simply must be put back to the voters".

The wording for the motion to full council on 22 July 2019 is -

This Council notes that there will be severe financial and social harm that will be caused to our country and to Norfolk by a No Deal British exit from the European Union.

The Council believes that the British people should be given the final say on whether Britain stays in or leaves the EU before a no deal exit is confirmed.

Therefore, this Council agrees to:

Proposed by Councillor Steff Aquarone
