Norfolk Tories need to apologise for Councillor Stone's comments on disabled people's funding cuts

August 27, 2019 5:35 PM

Councillor Ed Maxfield has today wriiten to Norfolk County Council Leader Andrew Proctor regarding comments by Conservative Councillor Margaret Stone on the cuts to the income that disabled people receive for their adult social care needs.

Councilor Maxfield has said -

"Dear Andrew

I was personally dismayed to read the email sent by Cllr Stone to one of the families campaigning for the restoration of MIG funding. There has been strong and widespread condemnation of the comments from people across Norfolk which is understandable given the tone and content of Cllr Stone's reported comments.

I note that your initial reported response appears to attempt to justify Cllr Stone's remarks. I am writing now to encourage you to make clear that you do not endorse her comments and also that you commit publicly to meet with the families that are affected by the cut to MIG support so that they can make their case direct to you. It is clear from votes in Council that we disagree on this cut but the families deserve to hear direct from those responsible for the decision why it was made."
