There has to be a real focus on SEND at County Hall

October 23, 2019 2:46 PM

Ed Maxfield's comment on the publication of the House of Commons Education Select Committee report into Special Educational Needs and Disabilities:

"Politicians have spent three years fiddling over Brexit while special needs education has been engulfed in flames.

"The crisis has been plain to see for anyone involved in education in Norfolk. Delays in completion of EHCPs, parents forced to challenge decisions, worries about schools 'off-rolling' pupils to avoid the cost of providing support.

"The council will claim it is investing in new special schools but those places could take months or even years to come on stream. There has to be a real focus on SEND at County Hall and, critically, the government needs to fund the system properly. Children most in need of support are being let down. We have to fix this."
