The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.
These values are the preamble to our constitution: the document that governs us as a party. Its aim is to tell you why we exist.
We believe that politicians exist to serve people, and speak the truth to power. We exist as a political party in order to put our values into action through engagement and discussion. We want communities in Norfolk to be empowered to take positive action so that where they live can develop for the better.
Our County Councillors' job, as your elected representatives, is to listen to and understand your local communities' needs.
Our aim at the next County Council elections in 2021 is to win so that the policies that govern what it does can be made to work for everyone in our society.
If you're interested in helping us achieve this, you can get involved or donate to support us.
Working for All of Norfolk - The Liberal Democrat Vision for our county
As Liberal Democrats we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to fulfill their potential, regardless of their age or where in the county they live.
Our liberal vision for Norfolk is about how we would make this happen, by transferring power away from County Hall and to our local communities:
We would make School Improvement the Council's top Education priority and establish an independent Commission with a remit to ensure that a greater proportion of pupils attend a good or outstanding school or setting
This means giving communities the autonomy and money to make decisions on improving their local environment, developing facilities and enhancing quality of life.
Supporting you, if you need help in older age, through funding local social, voluntary and community groups and making sure carers get the support they need, so that you can have greater independence and resilience by staying in your home.
You will be given a say on major changes of council services at the start of the proposals so that the changes meet, and are designed around, the needs of those people who use them.
Make better use of local businesses expertise as part of an enlarged economic development team to take a more proactive approach for promoting Norfolk and getting better, higher paid jobs into our county.
To tackle Norfolk's affordable housing crisis by using the Council's property development company to enable the development of more houses of the size and type to meet local need and to provide more affordable houses.
